How to get into Gili Trawangan

To get to Gili Trawangan, one of the Gili Islands located off the coast of Lombok, you can follow these steps:

  1. Arrive in Lombok: If you're not already in Lombok, you'll need to make your way there first. You can fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP) from various domestic and international destinations. Alternatively, you can take a ferry or fast boat from Bali to Lombok.

  2. Travel to Bangsal Harbor: From Lombok, you'll need to reach Bangsal Harbor, which is the main departure point for boats to the Gili Islands. There are several options to get there:

    • Taxi or private transfer: You can hire a taxi or arrange for a private transfer from your location to Bangsal Harbor. This option offers convenience and flexibility, but it may be more expensive. Private transfer from Lombok Airport costs from IDR400.000 per car (passengers up to 4 persons). Price also depends on the car's type.

    • Public transportation: You can take a public minibus (locally known as "bemo") or a shared taxi (locally known as "koperasi") to Bangsal. These are more affordable options, but they can be crowded and less comfortable. You can find bemos or koperasi vehicles at major transportation hubs in Lombok, such as Mataram or Senggigi.

    • Rent a scooter: If you're comfortable riding a scooter, you can rent one in Lombok and drive to Bangsal Harbor. This gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace, but make sure you have the necessary driving license and follow traffic rules.

Look for the ones heading to Gili Trawangan and inquire about departure times and ticket prices. It's advisable to compare prices and check the reputation and safety standards of the boat operators.

    • Public boats: Public boats (known as "perahu") are the most economical option, but they have fixed departure times and can be crowded. These boats wait until they have a sufficient number of passengers before departing. Ticket price is IDR20.000 per person.

    • Fast boats: Fast boats are quicker and more comfortable, but they tend to be more expensive. They offer fixed schedules and often include hotel pickups from major tourist areas in Lombok. Several fast boat operators serve the Gili Islands. Chartered fast boat price range from IDR 400.000 - IDR 600.000 per boat with capacity up to 8 persons.

  4. Board the boat: Once you have purchased your ticket, follow the instructions provided by the ticket booth and proceed to the designated boarding area. Ensure you have your ticket readily available for inspection.

  5. Enjoy the boat ride: Sit back, relax, and enjoy the boat ride from Bangsal Harbor to Gili Trawangan. The journey takes approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the type of boat and sea conditions. Admire the scenic views of the ocean and the other Gili Islands along the way.
